NETANYAHU SAYS HE’S RALLYING INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT FOR WAR WITH IRAN from TruNews
The Israeli Prime Minister Admits His Country Shelled A Syrian City Monday Night, But A Retired IDF General Says It’s Not Enough.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu possibly let slip his true intentions at an international conference in Warsaw convened by the United States to address Iran and other Middle East issues.
The ministerial conference in Warsaw, Poland, is being attended by Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as other U.S. officials working on President Donald Trump’s “Deal of the Century” Israeli-Palestinian peace plan. But in a tweet that went out through Netanyahu’s official Twitter account, the Israeli premier said:
Now is your chance to support Gospel News Network.
We love helping others and believe that’s one of the reasons we are chosen as Ambassadors of the Kingdom, to serve God’s children. We look to the Greatest Commandment as our Powering force.
“What is important about this meeting, and it is not in secret, because there are many of those—is that this is an open meeting with representatives of leading Arab countries, that are sitting down together with Israel in order to advance the common interest of war with Iran.”
More than 60 countries are participating in the conference, many of them from the Middle East, Eurasia, and the Persian Gulf region. Netanyahu’s tweet was left up for more than an hour before it was deleted and replaced with a statement that changed “war with” to “combating.”
The slip of the tweet was attributed to an incorrect translation from Hebrew—even though most Israelis working in the government are fluent in English. However, it reinforced the notion that the conference was yet another step in the U.S. “regime change playbook” that was used in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Further implicating Israel’s intentions, however, is the admission by Netanyahu that his government once again struck Iranian proxies operating in Syria this week.
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported Monday night that Israeli tanks had shelled targets—including an abandoned hospital and a nearby observation post—in the deserted city of Quneitra. The city lies within the demilitarized zone between Israel and Syria.
Although the Israel did not immediately respond to the reports, after Netanyahu’s confirmation—which broke with past policy to be ambiguous with regard to Israel Defense Forces activities—military reporters were told the strike targeted Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias trying to establish a base of operations near the Israeli border. The shelling was meant to serve as a “warning” to Syria and “other Iranian proxies” that Israel won’t tolerate a permanent Iranian presence in the Golan.
DEBKA reports:
“Iranian al-Quds and intelligence personnel and their subsidiary Shiite militias, chiefly Hezbollah, are embedded in Syrian command posts opposite the Israel Golan. They are disguised in Syrian uniforms. An IDF artillery and drone assault was reported by Damascus on Feb. 11 as hitting a former hospital in Quneitra and two Syrian army camps at the nearby village of Jabata al-Shaab. The notice omitted to mention that all three sites are occupied by Iranian, Shi’ite militias and Hezbollah forces. They have been there for roughly eight months.”
